Martial Arts
I’m a big fan of the martial arts. I was a somewhat serious student of Jeet Kune Do concepts from late 2001 until late 2003 when a knee injury took me out of training long enough to alter my life path. I subsequently met my wife, recuperated from the surgery, and then began toying with the idea of graduate school.
If you want to see what a professional martial artist looks like, check out my Sifu. Regrettably my master’s degree studies and my own laziness have taken me away from my school. I intend to rectify this as soon as I am back into just a little bit better shape.
Guro Inosanto was one of Bruce Lee’s top students, and hand chosen by Lee to teach at his school. I had the pleasure of taking two classes from the Guro. He is a humble, powerful man. One of my Sifu’s many teachers.
Most people are at least somewhat familiar with Thai Boxing. It is sort of ironic that the “art of the eight deadly limbs” comes from a people who, based on my (perhaps limited) experience, are nothing but kind and humble. Ajarn Chai is a world famous master of Muay Thai, and also the teacher of my teacher.
Learn about French Kick-Boxing, also known as Savate. One of Savate’s most famous sons, Professor Salem Assli came to our school many years ago.
Sayoc Kali is an impressive iteration of the edged weapon aspects of Filipino Martial Arts (FMA). If I ever get the chance, I want to train with a Sayoc Tuhon.
