Agave Syrup
by chris on Jun.24, 2008, under Uncategorized
Agave syrup is apparently becoming a popular sweetener. I’ve seen it in the Kroger organics section at a very high price, but never seen the need to shell out six dollars a bottle.
A fructose sweetener extracted from the agave plant – the same one used to produce Tequila – the syrup has been consumed for thousands of years in Mexico and Central America, but is only now becoming a recognized commodity in the United States. Practically unheard of five years ago, it has begun to show up recently in health food stores and Bay Area markets.
Burgers

I like all kinds of burgers. Fortunately for my arteries, I rarely eat a hamburger. However, I love turkey burgers, and all sorts of sandwiches that mimic the hamburger- chicken burgers, veggie burgers, and even tofu burgers.

“Bean curd made by a pock-marked woman,” as the Beijing Youth Daily rendered the spicy Sichuanese dish, is now “Mapo tofu.” And “chicken without sexual life” becomes mere “steamed pullet.”
Pregnant Wife Status – 6/19/2008

Wife ate fairly well last night after vomiting. I made baked Tilipia and leftover chicken breasts with Creole seasoning and garlic Home fried potatoes. I wanted to make her a little “soul food”/comfort food, as sometimes that’s the best thing for someone who is not that interested in eating.
She wasn’t too interested in the fish by itself, and decided to make a sandwich out of it with slices of ripe tomato. She ate all the potatoes I put on the plate and went back for seconds. More importantly, she kept everything down.
No fried potatoes for me. I’m trying to lose weight. I had a medium baked potato with ketchup and perhaps too much fish and chicken.
I like peanut oil for homestyle cooking. It ain’t the healthiest, but it has good flavor. It isn’t lard either, so there are worse things than eating things cooked in peanut oil.
She ate and watched most of some movie with Georgia in the title. Far too estrogenic for my tastes. I went for a walk/jog and received my riding lawn mower back from the repairman. I then did two loads of laundry and finished coding some statistics, at which time Sara got ready for bed. She seemed to be in pleasant spirits, but especially tired.
Miracle Fruit

I heard about this from a NYT article and also on BTLS.
“You pop it in your mouth and scrape the pulp off the seed, swirl it around and hold it in your mouth for about a minute,” he said. “Then you’re ready to go.” He ushered his guests to a table piled with citrus wedges, cheeses, Brussels sprouts, mustard, vinegars, pickles, dark beers, strawberries and cheap tequila, which Mr. Aliquo promised would now taste like top-shelf Patrón.”
