The Speck CandyShell is some of the best iPhone protection products I have seen. Hear me now and believe me later- And then hear me later because after my phone has exceeded the escape velocity of my hand, crashing to the unforgiving asphalt of my suburban surroundings I’ll still be able to place that phone call unless for some odd reason it lands roughly on a very sharp pointy rock onto the screen surface or drowns in a vat of deep fried chicken fat. Then I’m not so sure.

The CandyShell is aptly named. It has a hard exterior and a soft, gooey (hopefully shock absorbent) interior.

Still, it was a million times better than this horrible rubberized cover I got at BestBuy. I got a pink one cause all the many covers were taken. It was hard tot get in and out of my pocket, and eventually it tore after only a few months use. This CandyShell will take many licks I hope before I get to that soft center.

Check it out at http://www.speckproducts.com/products/candyshell/iphone-3g/162

They also make a tough skin that is the most testosterone-driven cover of all time.

I’ve been using the Flock 2.0 Beta with great success on my Mac running Windows Vista, which has been doing very well. I’m no so sure I love the address bar to be a sort of virtual search- It is just one more way of finding the sites you’ve visited, so I can live with the visual distraction.

Another cool thing is the Bug Report Button. I think it should look more like a nasty roach than a harmless fly, but it is sort of whimsical and almost acknowledging that things are not perfect.

I’ve wanted to buy the LDG AT-897 Auto tuner for my Yaesu FT-897d for about a year now. Although I’ve had my technician class licenses for over two years now, I’ve barely done anything with the hobby because I’ve been so busy with grad school. Fortunately I’m finishing things up, and so I want to begin pursuing my outside interests before the baby come and my personal time drops considerably. Oh sure, I hope to pursue the work/life/self balanace, but you never know what may happen…

Why do you need an auto tuner? Well you don’t *have* to have one. However, it makes things a lot easier and protects my radio from getting damaged due to my ineptitude at making antennas. Power comes back into the system and can burn up sensitive parts within your radio.

The best price I’ve been able to find is at Gigaparts for $179. Don’t get into HAM radio unless you’re ready to shell out initially for expensive equipment. Hopefully, I’ll be able to contact several Spanish speaking countries. My bachelor’s degree was Spanish- it is one of my motivations for picking up the hobby. Once I get the autotuner, I hopefully wont have to buy anything else terribly expensive.
